The Fatespeaker of Chironis: Laras and StarSwirl the Bearded were close compatriots, often exchanging pleasantries and new magical discoveries by scroll and sitting together at diplomatic feasts. During an event hosted by Celestia, Laras asked StarSwirl if he would help him create his future student. They agreed to meet at the castle apothecary when night fell.
Laras created Orchid with the intention of solving a long-standing issue: it had been thousands of years since an ideal candidate for the Fatespeaker role had been born. Other members of the royal court had offered their own representatives—nephews, sons, daughters—all insisting their child was the best fit, yet none possessed the resolve required for the job.
Orchid was then presented to the court as Laras' new apprentice, with their training beginning from birth.
In a darker age, when Tirek began his conquest—stealing magic from the innocent and leaving suffering in his wake—Orchid still held hope that their childhood friend could be reasoned with once more.
But by then, it was far too late. Tirek's resolve had never been stronger. Princess Celestia knew that Orchid's attempt to stop him would only lead to greater devastation. If Tirek gained Orchid's magic, nothing in the world would be able to stop him.
To prevent the worst, StarSwirl, the Princesses, and Laras joined forces to seal Orchid away within an ornate hand mirror, hidden where Tirek could never find them.
Laras understood that if Tirek suspected Orchid still lived, he would stop at nothing to free them. So, before the sealing, Laras passed the last of his magic to Orchid, honoring them with the title of "True Fatespeaker."
As a final safeguard, he deceived Tirek into believing he had killed Orchid himself—then destroyed his own magic, ensuring it could never be taken. Laras intended to die by Tirek's hand, carrying the secret with him to the grave.

✧ Fun Fact: Orchid is named after the medicinal orchid *Dendrobium officinale*, which was traditionally used in elixirs of longevity!
✧ New Friends The shore sprites claimed they hadn't had a queen for many generations. With no one to lead or protect them, they often found themselves falling prey to the many beasts that prowled the island's surface. Upon witnessing Orchid subdue one of these creatures with ease, a shore sprite elder deemed them their new queen. They just kinda went with it.They adored their new queen, flocking around Orchid like bees to a hive. They often helped with tasks and left small offerings outside their resting place in the Citadel. Before Orchid's arrival, Princesses Delphine and Meilani were considered the most capable of leading the fae folk. They were born with a rare trait among their kind which set them apart. When Orchid was named queen, the elders asked that the princesses study under their wing. Though hesitant at first, Orchid eventually agreed to mentor them. They grew on them, bit by bit. Now, they'd probably kill for the shore sprites.

In the Citadel grows the coral tree that bears pearl fruit. Though not edible, these growths offer glimpses into far-off realms, distant futures, and forgotten pasts. They come in many shapes and sizes, each producing unique visions.
To put it plainly: the pearls give Orchid the ability to observe different realities and their histories. They cannot enter these worlds — however, if a pearl is large enough, Orchid can sometimes reach just an arm in to grab souvenirs from other realms.
Because of this ability to tap into the pearls, some shore sprites have come to view Orchid as a deity of divine knowledge, often seeking them out in an oracle-like way.
